The Cranes Are Flying (Blu-Ray)

Beschrijving
Mikhail Kalatozov's critically-acclaimed, romantic tragedy. One of the first post-war Soviet films to receive any exposure outside the USSR, it won both the Palme d'Or and the Best Actress Award (for Tatyana Samojlova) at the 1958 Cannes Film Festival, and was nominated for two BAFTAs the following year. It went on to become a staple of the American arthouse repertory circuit into the 1970s.

Young Moscow couple Veronika (Samojlova) and Boris (Aleksey Batalov) are deeply in love, but are separated when Boris volunteers to join the army during World War II. While she waits for her lover to return, Veronika is raped by his cousin, Fyodor (Vasily Merkuryev), and later - having become resigned to the fact that Boris will never return - agrees to marry him.
